2008 JUNO AWARDS OLYMPIC PLAZA KICK-OFF CONCERT!

All Calgarians and visitors are invited to take part in this special celebration to welcome the 2008 JUNO Awards to town!

Calgary will serve up a stellar opening act for the 2008 JUNO Awards™ with a free outdoor concert featuring top Canadian acts Finger Eleven, Sloan, Bedouin Soundclash, The New Odds and The Dudes downtown at Olympic Plaza on Thursday, April 3, 2008.

"This is Calgary setting the stage for the 2008 JUNO Awards™, and rain or shine, we know it will be one of the best outdoor concerts this city has ever seen " said Terry Rock, President & CEO of Calgary Arts Development and Co-chair of the Calgary Host Committee for the 2008 JUNO Awards™.

FINGER ELEVEN

Finger Eleven is a Canadian band formed in 1994. The name Finger Eleven comes from an earlier version of the song Thin Spirits from the album Tip. Lead singer, Scott Anderson explains: "when everything is pushing you in one direction and your instinct drives you in another--that’s finger eleven." 2003's self-titled album Finger Eleven was a commercial success, spawning the single One Thing which reached #16 in the US. The band also recorded the song 'Slow Chemical' for WWE superstar Kane, and performed with The Alkaholiks on the compilation Loud Rocks (contribution: Daaam!). Their most recent album, Them Vs. SLOAN

BEDOUIN SOUNDCLASH


Bedouin Soundclash is a Canadian band from Kingston, Ontario. Their sound can be described as a mix of reggae, rock, soul and ska. The band's current lineup consists of vocalist and guitarist Jay Malinowski, bassist Eon Sinclair and drummer Pat Pengelly. Their debut album, Root Fire, released in 2001 also included djembe player Brett Dunlop. The band met while attending Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. The band released their second album, Sounding a Mosaic, in 2004. The album's single "When the Night Feels My Song" was the band's breakthrough single on Canadian radio, charting #1 on The Edge CFNY and gaining airplay on commercial radio stations throughout Canada in the summer of 2005. THE DUDES

The Dudes are a Canadian indie rock band, formed in 1996 in Calgary, Alberta. Dan Vacon is The Dudes' major creative force in the band. The group also includes guitarist Bob Quashnick, drummer Scott Ross and newest member and bassist Chris Vail. The Dudes gained popularity in Calgary both for their lo-fi approach to recording and releasing albums and for their live stage-show. On their latest album, Brain Heart Guitar, they worked with Calgary producer Russ Broom, and released the album in 2006 on the LoadMusic record label. Their music has been played on university radio and CBC Radio 3, and the group has played at South by Southwest and Canadian Music Week. They play regularly at the HiFi Club in Calgary. Their song "Dropkick Queen of the Weekend" was heard across Canada in 2006, having been featured in a Rogers Wireless advertising campaign. On January 12, 2007 they released a new single from Brain Heart Guitar, "Do the Right Thing". Its video was filmed at Webber Academy, a private school in Calgary, in the summer of 2006.
