AGC|COOKS - A feast for all of your senses!
For the sixth year running, the Art Gallery of Calgary will once again transform its gallery spaces into a six kitchen stadium to host it annual spring fundraiser, AGCcooks on Wednesday April 9th 2008. The evening promises to be an epicurean feast for all of your senses - whimsical sights and sounds, extraordinary art and offerings in the silent auction and of course famed culinary creations from six of Calgary's top restaurants.
Calgary's top chefs will compete in this friendly culinary competition and create a four-course meal - a salad or appetizer, a "bowl o' fun", entree and dessert. Each course will have to include the "secret ingredient" chosen by food and restaurant expert John Gilchrist. Guests are treated to a personal dining experience at one of the chef's tables, and encouraged to rate the four courses based on taste, creativity, presentation, and showmanship. The results are tabulated at the end of the evening and one of the chefs will walk away with the AGCcooks Gilded Utensil Award.
For the first time this year, we will be including an AGC Media Critics' Award. In addition to trying to win the favour of their guests, the chef's will be graded on the same scale by some of Calgary's top food writers and reports.
Five of six of the restaurants and chefs competing in this year's are confirmed:
- raw bar's Duncan Ly, Executive Chef (the defending champion from AGCcooks 2007)
- Piq Niq Bistro's Chris Spronk, Executive Chef
- Wild Ginger's Ryan Hughes, Chef de Cuisine
- The Belvedere Restaurant's Chris Walker, Executive Chef
- tangerine supperclub's Paul McGreevy, Executive Chef
All proceeds will support the AGC's renowned art education programs for schoolchildren Kindergarten to Grade 12.
