ALBERTA THEATRE PROJECTS - ENBRIDGE PLAYRITES: AUGUST
BY JEAN MARC DALPE
TRANSLATED BY MAUREEN LABONTE (MONTREAL, QC)
Alberta Theatre Projects is extremely proud of the success of the Enbridge playRites Festival of New Canadian plays and anticipates the 22nd anniversary of the Festival to draw in a large audience on a local, national and international level.
August is a side splitting and startling story to shake you up!
With a bottle of champagne in hand, Monique and Andre spend an afternoon on the family farm to celebrate their engagement. With four generations present and the sweltering sun beating down, the pleasantries melt away to reveal the tension and absurdity of one family trying to hold it all together. When four generations find themselves back together on the family farm, past and present tensions bubble to the surface in the feverish heat of summer. Jean Marc Dalpe's powerful play weaves an explosive tale of family drama and dysfunction over the course of one hot summer afternoon.
Synopsis: On a summer afternoon, a meal is being prepared in the old farm house occupied by four generations of a family. "The urbanites" are coming: Monique and Andre, two fifty-year-olds who just got engaged. On this scorching day, everything is falling apart between Gabriel and Louise. Underhanded plans are being prepared. The silence and denial will be even more meaningful.
