ALBERTA THEATRE PROJECTS - ENBRIDGE PLAYRITES: THAT EXCLUSIVE SPARK
BY JANET MUNSIL (VICTORIA, BC)
Alberta Theatre Projects is extremely proud of the success of the Enbridge playRites Festival of New Canadian plays and anticipates the 22nd anniversary of the Festival to draw in a large audience on a local, national and international level.
That Elusive Spark is an illuminating comedy about the spark between our baffling brains and our complicated hearts!
Helen Harlow and Phineas Gage have a lot of their minds! Helen has started a new job with some lofty expectations, not only for her workload, but also of herself. A world away, Phineas is thinking about the benefits of settling down, while trying to keep himself steady and focussed at his job - blasting rocks for the railway. Neither Helen nor Phineas is anticipating the sudden sparks that will change their worlds forever.
Synopsis: In 1848 Vermont, a "wonderful accident" occured which changed the understanding of the brain and personality, when Phineas Gage, a railroad construction forman, survived having an iron rod shot though his head. In the present day, first-time college prof Helen Harlow, a descendent of the doctor who treated Gage, struggles to get a grip of her head and her heart.
