Spend an evening with University of Calgary’s Astronomers at the RAO. We are hosting an open house so bring the family and learn more about stars, planets, asteroids and beautiful Alberta skies. View celestial objects through our telescopes, including the 1.8 metre ARCT, one of the three largest telescopes in Canada. The doors to the observatory are open so you can learn more about the telescopes housed on site and have a glimpse at what University of Calgary astronomers can see. We also have telescopes for everyone to look through as well as a brand new Interpretative centre with educational displays! Visitors are advised to dress warmly, and to bring flashlights. The RAO is on an exposed hill and the wind can be biting. If it does turn out to be calm and warm, mosquito repellent is not a bad idea.
If you want to take in our lectures we have two speakers whose presentations feature research carried out at the observatory and reviews of current topics in astronomy.
Speakers:
•Mr. Alan Dyer of the Telus World of Science will be presenting - The Amazing Sky
•Mr. Rob Cardinal is the Rothney Observatory’s asteroid hunter and his talk is - Asteroid Hunting
Entrance fee: **$5 per car**
