The Competition
Every year, Lunchbox Theatre commissions and
develops new, one-act plays penned by Canadian writers. It all begins
when Lunchbox invites talented playwrights from across the country to
submit ideas for new plays. From dozens of entries, the judges must
whittle the number down to a mere six. Then the playwrights go to work.
The result: six, brand new, one-act plays destined for the Lunchbox
Theatre Stage.
With an emphasis on humour, the plays explore a variety of topics performed as musicals, dramas or comedies. Not all readings will be seen in their entirety. In some cases, the authors make changes and add scenes minutes before the performance. And the audience will be asked for their input. After each reading from the work in progress, audience members can give their opinions, which may determine whether or not the play goes on to the big time or fades into obscurity.
